Traumatic Brain Injury among the Sri Lankan Combat Veterans

چکیده

During the Eelam War in Sri Lanka a significant numbers of combatants sustained traumatic brain injuries. Traumatic Brain Injury has been identified as one of the signature injuries of the Eelam War. Traumatic brain injury was reported as a major cause of mortality and morbidity among the combatants. The combatants with traumatic brain injuries encounter numerous psychosocial problems. They mostly experience cognitive loss, amotivation, psychosis, mood, changes, impaired impulse control, epilepsy and various other symptoms. These symptoms affect their functionality and quality of life. An effective psychosocial rehabilitation services should be provided for the veterans with brain injuries.
